Relationships are essential for Content Marketing Secret Agents that need to develop critical assets to get missions accomplished. Take for example, the relationship between content and social media. Many would-be content marketing operatives separate their content marketing efforts from social media marketing. Unproven and disconnected strategies create costly mistakes and who has the time or resources for that?
In this final installment of our Content Marketing Secret Agent series, we have social media strategist and co-author of Facebook Marketing All-In-One for Dummies, Amy Porterfield to share her best content marketing secrets for small and medium sized businesses to succeed online.
You have substantial experience as a social strategist and an author. How has your work with content marketing evolved and is all the buzz justified?
I love that there is so much buzz around content marketing at the same time that there is so much buzz around social media. The two go hand in hand when growing your businesses’ exposure and online presence. My work with content has evolved over the years to become more story-driven vs. just “how-to” tips and strategies. My goal has been to bring a new level of emotion and relevancy to my content – and by doing this I have seen my relationships strengthen and my brand expand.
Your session “Scalable Content Strategies for Facebook and LinkedIn” is focused on engaging your audience through content and tips for attracting new fans. What are 3 of the primary takeaways from your Content Marketing World presentation that you think are most important?
Relevant, valuable content turns a stranger into a fan and a fan into a customer.
To make an impact on your ideal audience, you must Super Share. Focus your content on the core social outlets that matter most to your brand.
Social content is different than traditional content. Today you must create content that educates, entertains and empowers.
What are some ways that successful companies are integrating content marketing with other online marketing channels such as social media, digital PR and SEO? Can you share a few examples?
Using infographics that incorporate great design and solid content is a trend that I see working really well with social media. On Facebook, images are the most popular media that users engagement with, much more popular than text and video. And I am seeing this across other social sites as well, including LinkedIn and Google+. Images make a huge impact. When incorporating images with content in the form of an infographic, you have a better opportunity to grab the attention of your ideal audience and your content’s sharability goes up dramatically.
Goals can vary of course, but what are some of the essential “must have” measurements for content marketing success?
When creating content marketing goals, I often tell my clients that it’s a must to track the social activity, including Facebook likes, Twitter retweets and @mentions and social shares (to determine which content has the viral factor you are in pursuit of), leads (if you are not moving your readers, fans and followers to action you are wasting your time!) and website analytics (# of unique visitors, average time spent per page, etc.)
What are 3 “secret” predictions that you have for the future and importance of brands and content marketing?
- The combination of mobile marketing and content marketing will bring to the forefront a new, unique style of creating and spreading content in the very near future.
- Facebook advertising will continue to unveil new, innovative ways to promote content via the News Feeds.
- New, easy ways to create and promote infographics will start to pop up more and more as marketers continue to experience the seamless integration of content, graphics and social platforms.
What’s one content marketing secret that you would like to share with Content Marketing World attendees?
Facebook Ads and content marketing work really well together. You can use your unique content in ads to drive targeted users to your Page and in doing so you can increase your leads and your overall engagement on Facebook. I have done this with my own business and with my clients and have seen some fantastic results!
